I would love to play water polo in college. I plan to do that by excelling in the classroom, the community and the pool. I pride myself on getting good grades and have been a good student all of my life. I have been the recipient of the President’s Award for Academic Excellence twice in my academic career. Once, when I graduated from elementary school, and again when I graduated from middle school. It rewards students who receive a 3.5 or higher GPA for their entire five years in elementary and their entire three years in middle school. As a Junior at Mira Costa High School I have a 3.97 (non-weighted) GPA and a 4.2 (weighted) GPA. I am a member of the California Scholarship Federation and I have been on the honor roll every semester. I have been a varsity athlete since Freshman year and I have been a scholar athlete every semester. I received Academic All American with highest honors from the governing body of USA Water Polo as a Junior Olympian. I am focused on keeping my grades high while taking as rigorous a schedule as possible. I have taken two Advanced Placement classes in the past and I have four more Advance Placement classes this year. I have learned leadership skills as the CEO of my own company, and as the founder of a successful community organization. I have learned to be organized, creative, a good problem solver and to work with all kinds of different people. I have also learned to be inspirational and a good mentor. I have needed to be able to communicate effectively to direct the people with whom I work. The organization that I run started as a club at my school is evolving to become a full-fledged charitable organization, and I am very proud of our growth and our contribution to the community. We have spent enumerable hours in both the design and implementation of the organization. We have solicited help from the student body and have given of our time to make the lives of others better. It has been a labor of love, and an incredible learning experience. We started by providing manpower for soup kitchens and food banks and now we are connecting all kinds of charities to people who need volunteer hours and want to make a difference in their communities. I believe that a person’s character shows up in every area of one’s life. You represent yourself, your family, your school and any other group or team that you are a part of, every day with your integrity, respect, intention and concern for others. I believe integrity and honor are the cornerstones of who you are in the world. I have participated in team sports since I was five years old. I have been a Junior Olympian seven times in swimming and water polo. I am the captain of both the Mira Costa Swim Team and the Mira Costa Water Polo Team. Team sports has taught me a myriad of life lessons. I have learned to work as a team for a common goal, to take direction, and to communicate well with others. I mastered setting goals and taking a million tiny steps to achieve the end result. I discovered that I am resilient and can bounce back from failure. I have learned to be both a gracious winner and a gracious loser. I learned to work through pain and find strength I never dreamed that I was capable of. I am very competitive and I want to win. I am team player and I want to contribute. I want to take all that I have learned thus far and apply it to being an outstanding member of a collegiate team.
