Ethan Friedman '22 Recruiting Profile

June 19, 2019 was the day I truly realized that I loved water polo. I was a few weeks short of turning 16 and was asked to cover for the 18U goalie who was going to be a no show for a Junior Olympics Qualifier game. A short while into the game there was a 5-meter penalty shot and it hit me square in the face. It hurt, but I didn’t feel the pain until later, all I cared about was that I blocked the ball.  In that moment, I realized that this is the sport for me and that I am meant to be a goalie.

I want the opportunity to continue my pursuit of the game throughout college while earning a bachelor's degree in business and/or engineering. I think I am different than other recruits in that my love of the game pushes me more than the love of winning (and I do love to win). My love for the game comes from the drive to compete, forming strong team bonds, and a hunger for personal growth within the game. I work at being a good teammate,  understanding others perspective of the game, and how we can work together to achieve success.  I think it’s also important to have fun together outside of the pool and adapt quickly to new people and situations.
