Personal Statement
I have been playing water polo since I was 8 years old and since then it has been the dominating aspect of my life. Since I first got into a pool and picked up a polo ball I have been entranced by this sport. When I first started playing it became my dream to play at the highest possible level with the best players and coaches supporting me. I know that playing water polo at university will be an incredible opportunity for me to carry on that dream.
I believe that my skills in water polo include my driving abilities as well as my high water polo IQ. I feel as if I am able to take a step back and look at the game whilst playing and understand what I need to do to help my team to the best of my ability. My penalty taking is also a good skill I think I could bring to a team with in the past 30 matches and around 40 penalties taken, only 2 misses. I feel that I am able to take criticism well and will always strive to become a better player in all aspects of the game. I also feel as if my work ethic is a good part of my polo mindset as I am always up for every training session I take part in.
I work hard all year round as there is no off season in water polo where I am. This means I am used to constant competitions and training camps. However even with all of the water polo I take part in with both my clubs, Watford water polo club and Bedford water polo club, as well as the Great Britain under 18 squad squad I still find time to take care of all the other aspects of my life, like schoolwork, Theatre, music and singing lessons.
In the classroom I am a hard worker and like in the pool, always strive to better myself however I can. I believe that it is this mindset that has given me my 4.4 GPA as well as my distinctions in aspects like my English spoken language exam. I create good relationships with my teachers and make sure that I utilise their resources as much as possible. I also help to coach the younger year groups water polo as I want more people to love the sport much like I do, and I feel like I am a good role model for them.
Finally, I want to attend college in the USA as I feel that it will push me both athletically and academically. I am open to all types of university and I want to dive into numerous different cultures and experience a multitude of different activities. I look forward to playing at the highest possible levels that are available to me and continue to develop my water polo skills whilst bettering my education and making my family and friends proud.
