Personal Statement
Aloha, My name is Kama Morton. I grew up in Hawaii and but now live in Aotearoa New Zealand (with dual USA/NZ citizenship).
I'm a 16-year-old Junior at Rangitoto College in Auckland who plays center back/driver/wing for my school, club, and country. My coaches say I have a great build for water polo and swimming at 6'5" tall, 195 pounds. They also say that I'm a good team mate whose coachable and puts team ahead of self.
Our family moved from Hawaii to Aotearoa New Zealand in February 2021 because of COVID. This was a hard decision for us as we loved Hawaii and I loved playing in the USA Water Polo system. Moving countries, starting at a new school, joining a new varsity team and club were all really hard but worth it. I've been able to play with great coaches and players again here in NZ. 2021 has been a great year and so different to 2020. My teams made both the school and club division 1 finals this year. After just 6 months here in Aotearoa New Zealand the highlight was to be selected for the NZ 2022 World Youth Mens Team to compete at the FINA World Junior Mens Championships in Australia next year.
Now I'm really looking forward to the 2022 season. I've grown and developed so much playing high level water polo here. Training for and competing in the 2022 World Youth Mens Championship and my senior school / club season will really prepare me for collegiate water polo in 2023.
Mahalo,
Kama Morton
