Personal Statement
When I started water polo at the age of 11 in St. Peter’s prep school I didn’t know what to except and was playing for the thrid team but I was instantly hooked to the game. The next year I took polo much more seriously and actually wanted to play at the top level. That year I played in the first team for the prep school and improved my game a lot that year. The next year (2017) was my first of high school and I wasn’t expecting myself to be playing in the top team for my age group but after my trials the coaches didn’t hesitate putting me in the u/14 A team and made me captain. A lot of my team hadn’t played polo before which made it hard for us in games which means I really had to step up. During winter that year I broke my collar bone and was out for a few weeks. While I was out I made sure I went to the gym every day to make sure I was as ready as I could be for when I came back. At the end of the year I made the u/14 A provincial team (state team). The following year (2018) I signed up for water polo service and water polo reffing which I am still doing. This year I was again selected as captain for my team and this year was a lot more successful than the previous. At the end of the year I made the first team “squad” (varsity team squad) in only my second year of high school. Training with these boys at the intensity they were only made me hungrier to improve and to play. I learnt a great deal in this time about top level polo. At the end of the year I again made the provincial team (state team). In 2019 I went on a tour to the USA with a national touring squad to play polo in the states. During our time there we attended a recruitment camp in Thousand Oaks (red cap 7). Also in the year 2019 I was selected to play for the first team (varsity team) and was now a player for them. This is what I had worked for all these years but I was not finished. At the end of this year I once again made the state team and was selected as vice captain. At the beginning of this 2020 I was selected for the Currie cup side to take part in the national South African aquatic championship.
