Hello, my name is Laineah Tracey. I currently reside on the Navajo Reservation. I am a Junior at Ganado High School. My goals are to graduate with honors and go to college for Nursing. I want to make a difference in peoples lives.
I started playing softball when I was 10 years old for a local little league. I started off as a pitcher. With no experience I started as a right hand pitcher. Some games I played other positions. I joined softball as my freshman year in high school and was chosen to be on the varsity team. I had the opportunity to play in a high school tournament. As a pitcher for the team I feel that I had done a lot of team work with my teammates. The most important thing is communication. I feel my first year coach was very open about this.
As a pitcher for my previous high school team I feel like I have made some successful decisions. I am a team player and have confidence in my teammates. I am a good candidate because I have set some examples for the lower classmen to have a chance to start pitching and never to late to start something new. I received a lot of comments from the parents and teammates. The feedback that I receive after each game, makes me build my self esteem. I always push myself to reach my goal. When I come to some decisions I always talk to my parents. They advise me what to do next. They are my role models too because they always tell me that the road to success is an everyday task. You never quit because as young as I am there are open doors to everything.
What I admire are the ladies that play on the USAA. I dream one day I will be in their shoes and be on national television. As a Native American we feel that we are not in the limelight. Maybe because we live in a rural community. I know what I see in myself is to make that difference for the community. I would be so honored if I receive a full scholarship to a college, play softball, and receive my higher education degree. I want to come back and make a difference in the health and well being of my Navajo tribe.
