Hello, my name is Tatyanna Campos and I am currently a sophomore attending Alhambra High School in Alhambra, California. To start off, I am the oldest of five children. I am Salvadoran and Mexican; although, you wouldn't be able to tell because I get my looks from my mother. I am a very hardworking student and athlete. All through middle school I have had straight A's and I attempt to continue this throughout high school. I will be the first in my family to attend and graduate college. I hope to become an EMT or paramedic if I don't have the opportunity to play softball professionally. I began playing softball around 5 years old. I played up until 4th grade, but life when chaotic as my family and I lost our home so I had to stop playing. I started playing again In 7th grade and soon joined a travel ball team in 9th grade. I also happen to play basketball and volleyball.
In my freshman year, I made the varsity softball team and earned my spot as a starter for 3rd base during pre-season. I love baserunning and even earned the name "Swiper" on my travel team because of my speed and how frequently I steal the bases. I also made the Junior-varsity girls basketball team during my freshman year. When preseason first began, I didn't get much playing time because I was always preoccupied with travel ball games and/or tournaments. However, I didn't want to just be another member of the team so I began to make choices. I figured a way to balance both basketball and softball, allowing myself room to become a starter. Going into the season I didn't have much experience since I had only played a year previously, but I put the work in and improved continuously. I started as a center and power forward but practiced as much as I possibly could. Later in the season, I was the small forward and power forward for our team. Lastly, I made the frosh (freshman-sophomore) team for girls volleyball. I had never played on an official volleyball team, for it was always just a fun game I played with my friends. I was a setter and outside hitter and was awarded as MVP.
I push myself to be the best I can be and will always take the chance to improve my game and put in extra work. I want to be a better student, athlete, teammate, and just a better person in general. I love being surrounded by girls my age who will push me to be better because we share a common love for something. I learned it takes very much dedication and perseverance to play softball or any other sport. Talent can only take you so far, so you have to want it more than the next girl. I want to continue learning and attain as much knowledge as I can. I would love to continue playing softball in college and take my skills to the next level. Honestly, just being accepted into a college would be amazing because I know I have the capacity to push my way through and reach my goals.
