To my future coach and administrators:
Hello, my name is Emma Cardenas. I am from Fresno California. My graduating year is 2023 and I am currently attending Sunnyside High School. My overall GPA is a 3.5, I attended an A.P. Psychology class and passed with a B. In these past years of playing softball I have dedicated myself to others for them to play and was willing to help them with their fundraising. On almost every team I’ve been on it turned out I was the only one that wanted to keep going and make it to the next level. I assisted in coaching 10/12u youth softball. I helped a few left-handed pitchers with mechanics, as a right-handed pitcher. I approached every girl as an individual because I know everyone learns a different way. Some of the girls I coached I’ve kept in touch with and many still ask for my opinions on their skills and how they can improve. I let these young players know if they were interested , I’d be more than happy to go out and meet them on the field to work on drills and other conditioning workouts, help them practice, when there’s no scheduled practices. I will go out for those girls, like them I know what it’s like to have a need to improve. I am a utility player, but my top 3 positions are pitcher, 1st, and 3rd basemen, I’m very excited to continue to learn more about this game I love so much, and use these new tools you teach me. What kept me going to continue my career in softball was being able to take constructive criticism. Learning how to be a leader on and off the field. Being told I’m doing good and I can always do better. Meeting new people and coaches knowing I can learn a little bit from each of them. Every coach I have had, plays a part in the knowledge I have in this sport I love. The biggest reason besides my love for this game , is my Mom, she’s my biggest fan, she’s my biggest critic, truly. My mother was the one who taught me how to pitch not knowing anything about it. I started watching YouTube videos and DVD’s to help me grasp the concept and know-how of pitching. It all began with my Mom signing me up for the Central Valley Softball League at the age of five years old. I continued playing for this league until I was thirteen playing for 16 U, then got recruited by a travel team called “The Outlaws,” the age group was 16U. So, the last few years I played travel ball with competition that was older than myself. I am currently 17 turning 18 in august the team I am on is Top Dogs. When they are coaching me, I do my best to learn everything I can, and develop skills I didn’t know I had. What I want to major in is the medical field and become a chiropractor or anesthesiologist. More importantly I want to continue at a school that will give me the opportunity to play and provide me the education I need and more.
