Personal Statement

I am a catcher looking for the right fit on a four year college program. I just completed my first semester at Saddleback College and held a 3.7 average taking 15 units. I had planned on putting up some good numbers for one or two seasons at a JC, then look to be recruited as a transfer athlete with an athletic scholarship making a good four year university affordable to me. But unfortunately that wasn't to be. The players at the JC weren't serious about playing hard, improving and winning....not my style. After practicing and working out with the team all Fall 2010 I called a meeting with Coach Trani, explained my position, he asked me to take two weeks off to think about it and I decided to leave the program. He understood and promised to give his highest recommendation to any coach contacting him about me. I'd like to find a college team in the hunt to win league championship where I can come in and make a difference and play right away. I love to compete, especially in softball where I found that I can excel and make any team that I play on a better team...a team that wins ball games, wins championships and domainates the competition. I have good leadership qualities and lead by example working hard on and off the field. I have played every softball position on the field except pitcher over the last ten years in highly competitive Orange County California on some of the best Travelball teams, and have found the best place to control the game and lead the team is from the catcher position. I hate sitting on the bench! My dream is to play college softball in a competitive league with serious players and dedicated coaches. I work hard to stay in shape and continually improve my game. 5' 10" 160 lbs. R/R I CAN carry a team to a league championship and I have several times. I have done that since my first year playing rec ball and I have done it three of four years playing for my high school team and travel teams. My high school is in the very tough 1A Division in Orange County, CA in the Seaview League and my teams have won the league chamionship the first three years with me at catcher every pitch of every game and then second place my senior year on varsity. To my dismay the varsity coach decided that this would be a rebuilding year and decided to start all Freshmen and Sophomores leaving me to warm up pitchers all my senior season in practice and games. A very difficult time for me watching them lose from the sidelines. In travelball and on JV's I led my team in RBI's, not with home runs but with timely hitting in the right spots at the right time. I want to find a coach with good softball knowledge, good character and one with a reputation for winning games and demanding a lot from his or her players athletically and academically. I'd like to find the right fit for me. I love playing team sports and I am extremely loyal to a fault. I plan to get a degree in Education or Psychology and become a teacher or maybe also coach someday. I played catcher on an 18 Gold travel team up until last August. I do need serious scholarship money to make my dream happen. My parents are having a tough year financially so I will need serious financial aid. So far I have only made one offical school visit and two unofficial visits. I really enjoyed the softball camp at San Francisco State this last summer. I practiced all Fall with the Saddleback softball team, and I made the team, but declined the offer to maintain my four years of eligibility once I find the right team to join. I guess that makes me a "Throwback Player" with four year eligibility and still looking for a spot at a four year school with a winning softball tradition.
