My name is Myia Weiler and I love the game of softball. As a child I tried every sport available to me but softball has always remained my home away from home. I started playing catch and wiffle ball with my dad when I was 2 and a half years old. I joined my first softball team when I was 4 years old. Initially I wanted to be pitcher because I would be involved in every play. Throughout my years on the diamond I have discovered that outfield is where my heart is because I love running and making plays as the last line of defense.
When I was 13 I flipped to the left slide to pursue slapping. I knew it was going to take a lot of work, but I trusted myself and my coaches. This process showed me that I am able to receive criticism and adapt to changes in my game. I love being a slapper because it is hard for the defense to know how to play me, and tricking the defense adds another layer to my game.
As a freshman I decided to try Volleyball for the first time. During this season I realized how much the game of softball has taught me in regards to team sports. I am competitive, encouraging, resilient, and hard working. I was given the MVP award for my leadership and team player mentality.
I have always enjoyed the fitness component related to sports. I love to be active in some form and found a appreciation for lifting weights. I love to get my days started with an hour in the gym, followed by school and then meet my team on the diamond every day after school.
My school is fortunate enough to have a sports med program for students to learn about and participate in sports medicine. As an athlete, I think it is important to know our bodies, proper movement, and what feels right Vs wrong. I am looking forward to taking this class my remaining two years at College Park High School, so I can get a better understanding of what direction I want to go in my career.
My dream is to play softball in college while I pursue my education goals of getting a bachelors degree.
