The first time I picked up a bat, I was four years old at a Fourth of July block party. My mom says I just picked up an abandoned, plastic bat and was a natural when it came to hitting, but it wasn’t until I was eight that I discovered softball and found my home, both literally and figuratively, on the field. For me, softball has always been the place where I continually challenge myself to be better each and every day. It's my home, and my family is my coaches, my teammates, and the softball families that share in the victories, the defeats, and the day-in and day-out commitment that competitive softball requires.
Softball is a daily grind, and getting better is not achieved by accident. It takes grit and perseverance to overcome the heartache and frustration of the losses and to continue to work toward the glory of victory. It’s been said that “what you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” For this reason, softball has taught me lessons about myself that stretch beyond the softball field and has helped to shape the strong, confident, and determined young woman I am today. These lessons have and will guide me in my future as I continue to challenge myself with honors courses and college prep classes to prepare for college in order to pursue my goal of earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from a 4-year college and playing competitively in collegiate level softball.
