I am thrilled to announce I have committed to Chapman University for 2024.
There is nothing I love more than diving or sliding to catch the ball in then outfield. My name is Ava Fagin. I am from San Diego, California and will graduate in 2024. I play Varsity at Torrey Pines High School and travelball for Athletics Mercado San Diego 18U Showcase Coach Carden. I play centerfield, middle infield, and pinch run. My primary positions are Centerfield and 2nd Base.
I love softball and want to play competitively in college. This year playing travel ball kept me mentally and physically strong. I love how excited I get when a tough play happens, when I feel the ball pop off my bat, or jumping in the air to catch a fly ball in the midfield and outfield. Some of my favorite memories growing up happened on a field. I’ve made so many life-long friendships with the girls on my teams. The life lessons I have learned while playing this game have taught me about dedication, overcoming challenges, and balance between work and fun. This sport constantly makes me strive to be a better person. I would not be the person I am today without it.
I have a 4.0 GPA and plan to Major in Business Communications with an emphasis on Media Studies in college. Unlike many girls who have played softball from a very young age, I actually played baseball for six years. That time I spent playing baseball has had a significant impact on the way I play softball today.
Before Covid, I started a softball gear charity giving drive. I just held my 2nd Annual Softball Gear Drive during my league tryouts. I doubled the amount of gear I collected from last year. I collected several carloads of bats, bags, gloves, helmets, etc... to be donated to underserved softball communities through the parent organization Pitch In for Baseball and Softball. My goal is to do this every year and get more leagues involved in the San Diego area. I want all girls to have the opportunity to play and learn leadership and life skills from playing softball.
Sincerely,
Ava Fagin
