My work ethic, ability to adapt and team commitment are three things that set me apart now and will help me in my college career in the future. I know that nothing comes for free and simply wanting something is not enough. You have to work hard for it. I want to do well in school so I do extra work in the classroom and go to my tutors every week to keep my grades up. I want to do well at softball so I practice on my own and work hard with my batting coach every week. My goal is to get a little bit better and a little bit smarter every day.
My ability to adapt to new situations helps me on the field and in the classroom. I recently moved from Brookline MA to Naples FL to finish high school. I knew that if I wanted to play softball in college then I had to play in a more competitive environment. I left my friends and some family behind to pursue my goal of playing in college. The girls are bigger, better, faster and stronger in FL so I had to change, adapt, work harder and get better to compete. I used to slap hit from the left side of the plate all the time. The softball slapping rules changed so I had to change as well. I worked extra hard at practice and in the cage so now I can dig in and hit from the left, slap from the left with both feet in the box or dig in and hit from the right side of the plate. The rules changed and so did I. Now I am a better player because of it.
Finally, I love being on a team. Win or lose you always have your teammates. As I get older and the competition gets better I have learned to play off the bench. I want to start every game but I will pinch run, pinch hit or just cheer my heart out for my team and my teammates. That is what you do when you are on a team. You listen to the coach, follow instructions and stay positive at all times, whether you are playing or not. I can do that and have fun doing it.
My goal is to play college softball. I am in the right place and on the right track. Now, by working hard, adapting to new situations and always putting the team first I know I will accomplish that goal. Thank you for your time and consideration.
