Hi! My name is Cassie Metzger. I've been pitching and playing travel softball for 10 years and I’m currently a pitcher with the Wheatland Spikes Organization (Salerno 16U). I'm from Oak Park Illinois and I've been playing varsity softball for Oak Park-River Forest High School (OPRF) for 3 years. I'm currently finishing my junior year and looking forward to graduating next year!
During my time at OPRF, I've maintained a 4.0 GPA with all honors/AP classes. I've taken AP English and AP Psychology and next year I'm looking forward to taking AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Physics, AP English Literature, and AP Spanish. I have been a straight-A student for 6 years (3 years of middle school and freshman-junior year of high school). I can't tell you my SAT score because COVID-19 canceled the test, but my ACT Super Score is a 31 and I'm planning to retake it in June.
Academically, I've received the Straight A Honor Roll from all semesters (6th-8th) from Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School, the Dean's list for both semesters my freshman, sophomore, and junior year. I've also received the freshman and sophomore emerging scholar awards in English. I have also been named to the Cum Laude Society as of my junior year.
My main extracurricular is softball, but outside of that, I enjoy creative writing, astronomy/stargazing, reading, and doing various forms of art including drawing (both digital and traditional), painting (I've been working on it over quarantine!), and video editing. I'd be a good person to make a hype video haha! :).
Softball wise, I'm a right-handed pitcher. I throw 6 pitches, a fastball, changeup, dropball, screwball, curveball, and riseball. My best pitches are my curve, rise, and change. I also enjoy playing outfield. I have experience in other positions and always enjoy learning new places to play, but I enjoy outfield the most and have the most experience playing there (outside of pitcher). I also love hitting, I'm a lefty contact hitter with a 2.81-second home-to-first time.
I started playing softball for the Oak Park Windmills when I was 7. Since then, I've been a part of teams placing 3rd in the USSSA 11U Midwest Nationals, 2nd in the USSSA 12UA World Series (Orlando), 2nd place in the USSSA Elite Select 12U All-American Games, and 2nd in the Platinum PGF Nationals in California (16U). Personally, I've made the USSSA Elite Select Futures team as a pitcher, received the USSSA Road to Orlando World Series Pitching MVP, and been named to PGF 16U Platinum Nationals All-Tournament team.
On all the teams I've played for, I do my best to drive the team to be better. I do my job to make myself better to help the team and I do my best to be there for my teammates, whether they need someone to watch their swing, or just someone to talk to. I'm an ambitious and competitive person, both on and off the field, and on the field, I do my part to help our team be the best that we can be and win as much as we can win. If I struggle or have an off day, I work to get better. I've never been one to let a setback stop me from achieving whatever I want to achieve.
I’m open to attending a college in any region of the country. I am looking for a high-quality academic school with a fairly good softball program. I am primarily interested in smaller colleges because of their small student to faculty ratio; however, I will still consider larger schools with good academics and good softball. I am interested in pursuing astrophysics, so I'd like to attend a school with a good physics program. However, I am also considering psychology, so a school with quality programs for both would be ideal. In terms of college divisions, I want to attend a school that will give me a good balance between academics and softball. I am primarily looking at Division 3 schools, but as long as a college can offer a good balance between both, I would definitely consider them.
I want to attend a school with a good community. As much as I want a good education, I also want to be able to enjoy my 4 years in college and spend time with people I enjoy. I'd love to be able to get along well with the players on the team and play for a team that values each other, on and off the field.
