Personal Statement
My name is Maryam Suliman. Currently, I am in the American Community School of Abu Dhabi. In Abu Dhabi, UAE. I am starting High School in August 2019. I've lived in the UAE all my life but I am an American Citizen and go to Massachusetts every summer. I haven't been in a softball team. But I practice with my dad and sister frequently and I am attending a softball summer camp this summer. I am very interested in softball and I am ready and committed to start a serious softball career and continue it throughout high school and college. I do not have any academic problems. As I am in an extended class. I am above average in Mathematics and take an advanced math class. I speak English and Arabic fluently. I take an advanced Arabic class. I am also planning on learning a third language (French or Spanish). I am in Student Council. I am the Vice President in the middle school Student Council. I plan events and better my leadership skills in the Student Council. From grade 1-4 I was in Girl Scouts. I know it was a long time ago, but it has really helped with my leadership, goal setting, and general people skills. I have also participated in lots of services throughout my elementary and middle school career. I was in Roots and Shoots in 4th and 5th grade and I did things for the environment. In 4th grade, I helped collect toiletries for the cleaners of the school and handed it out. In 4th grade, I spread awareness for a clothing drive and collected clothes to donate to the poor. In 7th grade, I collected cans from the community and went to Ajman (a poorer place in the UAE) and handed the canned food to people there. In 8th grade, I traveled to Thailand which is probably my best service experience. I painted a temple there that was run down. I cooked and packaged food and handed it out to a poor village. I planted Banana Trees to help a struggling farmer. I built a hut for an elderly woman in the village. I renovated the floor of a poor school and participated in a program to teach Thai children how to speak English. I have an acting career I have been in some musicals at school. I am in Theatre class, so I know how to analyze scripts, act, make sets and costumes and more. I have also been on a show called "Iftah Ya SimSim" which is an Arabic version of Sesame Street. I went through auditions and was one of the lucky 20 people to get chosen out of the thousands that tried out. The show is a big TV show and I was in 6 episodes. I was in Orchestra Class in the 6th grade. I know how to read notes and play the flute. There are lots of other things that I could write about myself but these are my highlights and the most important things you should know.
