Personal Statement
My love for the sport of baseball happened when I was 6 years old. When my grandmother and mother enrolled me in T-ball at the Freedom Farm Baseball League. They gave me the option of staying in Judo or playing baseball. My choice of course was baseball not knowing how much I would really love playing. I have been playing ever since and I have been given the opportunity as the only girl on the boy’s team to travel and play at various tournament in the States. At Freedom Farm I had to transition from baseball into the softball when the League decided to start Jr. softball, I was 10 years old when I first picked up a softball and was asked if I would be interested in learning how to pitch by one of my favorite Coaches, Coach A. Beckford. I quickly picked up on the pitching skills. I found it to be exciting of how one ball been pitch out of my hands at a great speed could get the batter either to swing and miss or to stand there and watch the ball pass them. I had to moved up from the Juniors into the Seniors after only one year of playing. Entering the Senior division of softball at 11 years old I was a little intimidated because I was the youngest player in that division, but I quickly realize that I had nothing to be afraid off once I hit the field and start playing the game that I came to love. Unfortunately, I only spend 2 years playing softball at Freedom Farm. My mother saw a greater need for me to move to Junior Baseball League of Nassau Softball League (JBLN). I was able to get more playing time and opportunity to develop my skills for the sport of softball. I have been playing at JBLN for the past 5 years on the team call the Crushers again finding myself to be the youngest player on the team at 12 years old, I was quickly put in the role as the only pitcher for the team after one of my teammates broken her ankle. After my first season at JBLN I have been given the pleasure to travel with JBLN All-star team to Washington and Virginia to play at the Pony Tournament. I had the pleasure of playing in the 14U, 16U and 18U divisions. During the last 3 years I have been given the greatest opportunity to be my team’s Captain. I am a utility player; I always love playing at (ss) Shortstop, but over the past 6 years I have become a good pitcher. I have not had too much opportunity at catcher but when I do, I will do my best to set up the pitcher because I know what I want the catcher to give me as a pitcher. These are the various positions I have played over the years. Pitcher, Infield (1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base SS and Catcher) Outfield. Left/Right & Center).
In 2018 again I found myself as the youngest player at the age of 13 years old, playing on the Bankers Field Night League on the team called the Hennessey Panthers later to be rename the Johnson Truckers.
In 2019 an organization call Bahamas Athletic Pride (BAP) invite me to be one of the few girls to show our talent to the country by putting on a Survival game call The Show with at least 14 girls on 2 teams Breast Cancer in pink and Lupus in Purple. I was on team Lupus for the 14U which I mostly played (SS) Shortstop. Then again, this year July 17th 2021. I was invited back to play, and I was on team Breast Cancer where I played 2nd base.
My goal is to be able to continue playing at collegiate level and one day at a professional level as well to play in the Olympics. I have had some great coaches over the years of playing that has kept me focus on the sport which I have grown to love. Since I was 6 years old, playing Baseball and Softball has given me the ability to be aware and focus on my academic life and family life. My excitement and love for this sport, I dreamed about becoming the first female from the Bahamas to play in the major leagues I still have this dream, but it has shifted just a little bit to playing softball at the professional level where it would be (WMLS) Women’s Major League of Softball.
My career goal is to become a Psychologist.
