Personal Statement
Dear Coach,
My name is Jessica Smith and I am currently 17 years of age attending Penrith Christian School, located in Sydney Australia. I am a right handed pitcher currently in grade 11 and will graduating high school in November 2023, thus being able to start college in Fall 2024.
The subjects I have chosen to study in grades 11 and 12 are Standard English, Biology, Modern History, Community and Family Studies, Business Studies and Hospitality. As for my future studies and career’s pathway, I am interested in the hospitality industry and specifically hospitality management and event management.
My softball career started 10 years ago in 2013 when I registered to play T-Ball for my local softball club. At first I was hesitant about the game and was just following my older sisters lead, but after my first summer season I instantly loved the game of softball and all the aspects that were included, especially sliding and diving. At the age of 10 I trialed and got chosen to play for and represent Penrith City Softball Association in the under 11’s State Championship’s and as a result I found my passion for playing softball and competing in softball tournaments and competitions.
Throughout my softball career I have represented Penrith Softball Club, Penrith City Softball Association, Western Sydney Academy of Sports (WSAS), New South Wales Combined Independent Schools (CIS), New South Wales Pacific School Games team where we were undefeated National Champions, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and New South Wales (NSW). From many eye opening and exiting experiences, my passion for the game of softball has only grown and provided me with opportunities that many may never experience. One experience in particular that has made my passion for softball so strong is competing at the Blacktown Junior International Challenge, where three teams were chosen from all players across New South Wales to play against two Japanese teams and one New Zealand team that travelled to Australia for the event. During this competition I got a taste of what it would be like to represent Australia and this has ultimately given me a goal for my future softball career.
Deciding what to do after leaving school has been a hard decision to make for me, but when I heard about the opportunity to apply for colleges in America and play softball, it was an opportunity I could not turn down. For the last year I have been determined to train my hardest and study more, as I hope to get a Softball Scholarship for College in America and I would require financial assistance to achieve my goals and dreams.
I thank you for taking the time to read this personal statement and will be looking forward to communicating with you in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
Jessica Smith
