Hi, I am Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag. I am currently a junior in high school in the 2016-2017 school year. I am a very active person in my community and love to help others! As a person, I put others first. From letting someone use my belongings to helping out at the nursing home. For the past two years I have participated in FFA. FFA stands for Future Farmers of America. I was the reporter for my FFA group. I am currently not in FFA anymore because I wanted to take classes that are associated with my career choice and my schedule did not work out doing both. I am also in an organization called 4-H. I started participating in 4-H when I was in 4th grade. When I was in 6th grade I was the secretary for my club. In 4-H we do a lot of volunteer activities such as walking the ditches to getting gifts for kids that are less fortunate during the holidays. These are just some of the activities that I participate in for the community.
Now I am going to tell you about the sports that I am in. I am in softball, volleyball, and track. I have been playing volleyball ever since I was a 4th grader. I am now on the varsity team playing a role as a server. I also participate in track. I have been in track for 5 years now. I throw shot put and discus. The last sport that I participate in is softball. I have been on the varsity team ever since I was an eighth grader. As an eighth grader I was the backup pitcher and I would also hit. As a freshman I started 1st base as well as being number 5 in the lineup. My freshman year was the first year our school had ever made it to the Iowa State Tournament and we ended up getting seventh. Last years as a sophomore I was the starting pitcher as well as being the number four hitter in the lineup. Again, we made it to the Iowa State Tournament and finishing 4th. Also down at state I made the All-Tournament team, being the first one from my school. The last activity that I participate in is my traveling softball team. I play on this team so I am able to fill in my extra time that I have in the fall and spring. All together during my high school career I have hit around 28 home runs.
