Avery McKinney '24 Recruiting Profile

Hi Coach:

  My name is Avery McKinney, and I am a Sophomore at Urbandale High School in Des Moines, IA.  I started playing Softball when I was 4 years old thru our local Rec Program and decided to start playing Competitive when I was just 6 years old.   My dedication and love for the game continues to grow more and more with each Season that I play and I have learned to use that same dedication and focus in the classroom to maintain a 3.7 GPA.

  I am a teammate first, my goals, focus and effort is always for the team.  Thru my Club experience most of my teammates have stayed together which has made all of our families very close and we love all the support we have from our Softball family!  As a Lead Off Hitter I know my role and I am good at getting things started offensively for our team in getting on base anyway I can.   My size can be deceiving to the defense which we use to our advantage because I am small and fast but I am also strong and can hit the ball.   

  Defensively, I played second base from 6 years old until about 12 when I transitioned to the outfield.  At a young age I learned how important defense was to win games when I was honored with the Defensive MVP Award at the USSSA National Championship in Kansas City, Missouri when I was 8 years old.   As a Freshman last year I earned a Varsity Jersey, started off pinch running and ended the Season starting the Regional game.  My goal for the upcoming year is to continue to work hard in the Off Season, attend some College Camps,  and help my team get to the State Tournament!
