Personal Statement

Personal Statement

I was a talkative kid in elementary school, but I was still a good kid. It was mom and I when I was younger. This did not stop me from having a great childhood. I really started to be interested in sports and doing hair, nails, and make-up etc when I was five.  I remember when I begged my mom for two years to play a sport, and when I was seven, she let me join softball. To this day,  I'm still playing, and I love it. My mom would get me Monster High dolls to play with and that's how I fell in love with cosmetology.

When I was younger, I remember teaching myself how to braid, then when middle school hit I was braiding everyones hair, well braiding anyones hair that would let me. Sports became a larger part of my life at the same time. I tried out for basketball which is not my thing, I did track and field and loved it. My 8th grade year, I didn't do any sports because I was waiting for track season to hit, then Covid-19 arrived in the spring which made doing track impossible. I didn't know that doing track in 7th grade would be the only time I would do it because softball and track are in the same season in high school.

Highschool came around and I was doing both virtual and in person learning, which was not fun but students were able to fully come back towards the end of freshman year or the beginning of my sophomore year.  When I entered high school, my mom told me she put me in JROTC, and I was like: “Mom, what are you serious!” I did not think that I was going to like it, because it was about military things and I didn't want to do that. She assured me that if I did not like it she would let me switch the class.

JROTC soon became a big part of my life during high school. It has left a great impact. As soon as I entered that classroom, there was a short bald man yelling but little did I know that man was first sergeant and that man would be the best coach ever, back to in class he showed us the videos of the special teams they have in RO. Once I saw that video for Raiders, I was hooked. I looked and pointed at that screen and said I want to do that. Yes, I got weird looks form people because I was in Raiders but not going into the military and some call me crazy for doing it for fun.

I have joined two special teams: Raiders and Drill. Raiders has taught me how to work with others when under a lot of stress. It has taught me to be a good leader and direct people in the right direction. I love how Raiders keep me fit and pushed me to be a better version of myself. I'm still excelling in softball. I've been on varsity all four years.

I also started powerlifting sophomore year and started bowling my junior year. I can say I love getting involved.  I am still that girl that braids everyones hair, I do it for girls on the softball team. I can do  different styles with my friends and I do all different types and textures of hair, I have also dyed my friends hair too. Being involved has taught me how to work with lots of different people and under many different conditions. This will make me a great candidate for a business management degree as well as a certification in cosmetology.
