My name is Abigail McDougal. I am a senior at Letcher County Central High School in Whitesburg, KY. Like many kids from small towns, I grew up playing a multitude of sports, but softball has always shown itself to be the one I love most. I began playing at a very young age and started playing travel ball when I was 8 years old. With an older sister, I was consistently thrown into older age groups to play, which ultimately provided me with the skills and competitive mindset that I am now proud to possess. I have acquired many individual and team awards throughout the years along with many irreplaceable friendships and life lessons. I find joy not only in softball, but also in many other hobbies such as baking, reading, running, gardening, and caring for my many pets. I have grown up in a wonderful and close-knit town in which our people appreciate and depend on one another. No matter the team, no matter the sport, those I play, and have played with in the past, are all dear to my heart. When devastating flooding struck my Eastern Kentucky town a mere three weeks ago, our sports were set aside; however, my team continued to work as one to help in any way possible. In college I hope to find this type of family within my teammates. I have always excelled academically, and I believe that my love for softball stems from this success. Based on my experiences, softball has proven itself to be just as mentally challenging as physically. It is a game of failure, but also one of great reward. I find myself most comfortable when I am on the field challenging myself with teammates that share my love for the game. I am hoping to play softball at the next level in order to maintain the discipline necessary to move forward with my life as well as to create lifelong connections. I plan to study physics. I will be playing with the Louisville Sluggers 18U-Kuhn team this fall in various showcase tournaments. I’m anxious to hear from college coaches.
