Personal Statement

I am looking for a college to meet my academic and athletic needs.  I am a corner player or right-handed pitcher with a good bat!  But, I'm willing to play whatever position my team needs me to play.

I love softball!  In my freshman year I hit 15 homeruns in the high school season (23 games).  As a freshman, I was proud to lead my varsity team, as pitcher, to the LHSAA playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year. I was named to LSWA Class 2A All-State Softball Team, Elite 21 Softball Team (tri-Parish), All-Vernon Team, All-Cenla Team, and LHSAA 4-2A district team.  In addition, I have been recognized as the MVP for All-Vernon, West Central Sportsline, & Elite 21. I also broke the homerun record for Vernon Parish with 15 homeruns; the 12 homerun record for a regular season was held by Univeristy Lafayette Louisiana standout, Christina Hamilton from Rosepine High School.  WHAT A GREAT SEASON AS A FRESHMAN!

I was selected as an Under Armour/Softball Factory Pre-Season All-American so I traveled to Clermont, FL in January 2014 for recognition.  Also, in January 2014, I attended the College Softball Camp in Covington, LA.  Fortunately, I've been able to attend a several other softball training camps and have learned lots. At LSU I earned the "Long Ball Award" by hitting the ball farthest in competition. In Louisiana, I've enjoyed working with the McNeese State University Staff, Northwestern State University, and Nicholls State University Staff as well.   Some other favorite players and coaching staff members that I have worked with are University of Florida (the 2014 CHAMPIONS), University of Alabama, Texas A & M, Ole Miss, and University of Tennessee - ALL have GREAT universities with GREAT softball programs.  I enjoy learning and working with the best

I have been evaluated by Softball Factory, Fall 2011, January 2013, and July 2014.  In addition to the evaluation in Pearland, Texas/Fall 2011, Softball Factory conducted a tryout for the company’s National Team.  I made the National Team and participated in Clermont, Florida during the Softball Factory’s Christmas Select Training and Competition Event 2011 and Vero Beach Training in January 2013.  What an experience working with Lea Ann Jarvis, Dot Richardson, and many others!  My scouting report and video can be viewed at http://members.softball-factory.com/player/55115/99347--Summer-Atkins--SF-Christmas-Camp--Tournament-12-13. My updated performance from January 2013 is noted as well.  Of course, Lea Ann Jarvis can verify my performance with Softball Factory; she can be contacted at email: [email protected] or phone: 702-283-4936 as I have been selected as PreSeason All-American the past 2 years for Softball Factory.

I currently play for the Louisiana Bombers 18U Gold and the Pickering High School varsity softball team. I pitch for the high school team, but I play corner for travel. I have hit 60 out of the park homeruns!

I have been blessed with many assets such as good work ethic, determination, dedication, compassion, pride, and a supportive family.  My parents are both educators who have instilled the importance of education, knowledge, and experience, which are the backbone components of anything one tries to accomplish.  In addition to possessing and craving knowledge, I am a hard worker.  Striving to be the best, I take any opportunity to learn and grow - advice or coaching to assist in making me a better person/athlete is always welcomed; if I am a better person, I can contribute to society or my team.  I am actively involved in many activities at school and in my community.  I make great effort to being a leader to others because I believe I can help others in a leadership role.  Most importantly, I am a Christian so I try to model my life after Christ because He is the ultimate teacher in all aspects.

All in all, I feel like I am headed in the right direction on the path of life and look forward to my journey as a student-athlete in the college world and beyond.  I know that I am still learning and developing my athletic abilities, but I must continue to perfect my overall abilities as a person as well.  Thank you for taking the time in reading my message and viewing my profile/video.
