My name is Kaitlyn Orillion and I am a 5'4" 170 lb softball player. I am a varsity catcher and first basemen. Last softball season in the school year of 2018-2019 I was awarded as the 5-2a honorable mention all district 1st basemen. I've also been selected as 1 out of 12 girls in Louisiana to go play on the USA softball team in Spain for 9 days in July. Softball has been a huge impact on my life, I started at the age of 9 playing rec ball not being able to play on my middle school team. At first i just looked at it as just another social hour with friends. Once i was able to play in 5th grade on my middle school team at St. Mary catholic school my thoughts on the game changed. Even at a small school with having parents for coaches, I wanted to play and do everything to give me playing time. Starting off in middle school I played outfield, 3rd, 1st, and catcher during my 8th grade year. When i started catching it impacted me, I feel so in charge of the game. I was able to know what was going to happen before a lot of people knew. Once I started high school softball helped me with my anger, I had a lot of anger because not long before that I had been sexually assaulted. I then made the softball field my safe place. Starting my freshman year to now my senior year I have always been a varsity athlete. My freshmen through majority of my junior year I was the varsity starting catcher. Toward the end of my junior year I started playing 1st base again. Hopefully i will be starting as the varsity catcher this softball season. Another accomplishment I had in the 2019 softball season was being the only girl to hit an out the park home run in he last 4 years at Vinton high school. I would life to play softball in college because i like the family atmosphere it puts on every player. Also id like to have a safe place at the college. I have a cousin and two aunts that played before me, i'd like to take after them. Ive always been told that I am a strong and will powered athlete, hopefully that can help me get on a college softball team.
Sincerly,
Kaitlyn Orillion #16 Vinton high school
