Hi, my name is Kennadi Dykstra. Through sports, I have gained so many great life experiences. When I was five years old, I fell in love with playing softball. I was shy and showed up to games ready to give my all, but never really understood what it meant to be a good teammate. As I’ve grown, I’ve continued to carry that love of softball, while also building my confidence in being a more vocal participant on my teams. I appreciate the coaches who I’ve had along the way for seeing my potential and pushing me to be my best. I will forever be grateful for their drive to get me to see that potential in myself. When I was younger, I didn’t understand what my coaches meant when they said that the qualities of a good teammate will not necessarily show up in the stats. Over the past few years, I have gained a better understanding of these qualities and what an impact they can have on other players and my team as a whole. With these new understandings, I’m so excited to continue to build my leadership skills in order to become an even better teammate.
Academics are extremely important to me. I have completed 46 credits with a 3.687 GPA at my community college. While taking these classes, I have also played on the softball and bowling teams. I am looking to continue to play collegiate softball at a four-year university, while working toward my nursing degree. I believe that the time management, teamwork, and leadership skills that I’ve gained through playing sports will help me to become a successful nurse.
Even with my sports and school commitments, it is important for me to find time to give back to my community. Using the compassion that my parents, coaches, teachers, and mentors have instilled in me, I aim to make a positive difference in others’ lives. All of my life experiences are helping to shape me into a driven and compassionate team player. With all of these qualities, I believe that I would make a great addition to a college softball team.
