Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and look through my profile. My name is Paeton Vandlen, class of 2026, and I attend Holt high school in Holt, Michigan.
Softball has been in my life from an early age. I have always loved playing the game, and I started playing travel around 12. Playing travel softball for the past 5 years has taught me so much about myself, what I’m capable of, and the game of softball. I've had so many amazing coaches throughout the years that have helped me get to where I am now, especially my dad. He has done everything he could to help me get better as a player and a person.
I love playing middle infield, but playing short is by far my favorite. I love the bond between middle infielders, being actively involved in every play, and taking charge as one of the leaders on the field. One thing my coaches and teammates can always say about me, is that I never come off the field clean. Many coaches have said my diving and being able to layout is something they admire about me as a player. I am very well rounded and able to play many positions including, middle infield, third, and all outfield positions. With all the work I do as a fielder I also spend a lot of time on my swing. Hitting has never come easy to me and that is why I continue to work hard to be the best version I can be. I dedicate a lot of extra time working on drills off the tee and in the cages.
Softball is something I love and I never want to stop playing. But I know there is a short window of time to play, so I am determined to always put in my best effort in practice and games. Softball has been such a positive in my life and has taught me so many good lessons. I’ve also had to deal with injuries and learn how to push through and persevere. I’m returning from my second ankle surgery and I’m determined and willing to do whatever it takes to be the best I can be.
My goal is to play collegiate softball. I am not exactly sure what I want to study at this point, but I am determined and have the drive and desire to continue to get better both academically and athletically. I play softball not just because it is fun and something I enjoy, but because I love competing and being with amazing teammates that always have your back. Softball brings so many unbreakable bonds with both coaches and teammates that I am so grateful for. The game has taught me teamwork, hard work, leadership, and confidence that has carried into my everyday life. It has helped me grow into a better person and helped make me who I am today.
I’m determined to continue to play and grow as a person and a player and I look forward to showing all of these qualities to whomever sees me play. Again, thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement!
