Hi! My name is Erin McCarthy and over a year and a half ago i got the one of worst wakeup call any athlete can get. After a few weeks of waiting my doctor called telling my mom that I had torn my ACL Having been through it herself she called me to give me the news which to be honest sent me into a shock that nobody should ever have to go through. Up until that point softball was a huge part of my identity which it definitely still is but all I was known for locally was for playing softball. Hearing that news felt like a huge part of me had just been ripped out , but I knew that this was the start of the long road to recovery ahead of me . It took me about 7 months to get back to playing which was some of the worst time of my life, but I would never change what happened. When I got hurt I gained about 30lbs which made going back to playing super hard because I wasn‘t as mobile as I used to be which definitely threw me off. Soon after I realized I had to make a change and get myself back together if I wanted to make it. So I spent hours working out and eating much healthier than I ever had. I began to workout everyday and go to the batting cages and or fields for hours on the daily. After some time this brought me to where I am now . Over a year and a half later I’m the best I’ve ever been, the happiest I’ve ever been , and the healthiest I’ve ever been. This taught me that I‘m strong enough to not only overcome a physical injury , but I am also strong enough to overcome my self doubts and the people around me who told me I was never gonna be the same as I was before. Which in a way they were right. I am a completely different athlete than I used to be because I know how fast I can lose what I love which has made me not take a single moment of all the workouts and practices for granted because any day can be someones last out there.
