Hello coaches my name is Jalynes Ramirez, My coaches and teammates call me Jaly. I attend the Young Women's leadership school of Astoria, class of 2024. I got the opportunity to be a starter for my varsity team as a first year player my sophomore year. I always loved the sport since I was young and I would sit to watch the mets baseball games. Starting late because of covid it made me realize how much time and work I had to put in. While playing for my high school team I was sixth in the lineup and would strike out but soon after I was 4th in the batting line-up, got 63 stolen bases, 14 hits, 40 runs and 16 rbi's in a matter of 17 games. All the work I put in payed off because I got an award for Most Improved Player and I was invited to a PSAL showcase for top players in the city all in my first year of playing. My dedication to the sport and striving to be the best I can caused me to put in work daily. On my days off I would pick up a ball, glove and go practice. Being on a field made me realize my passion for softball. The quote I live by is “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.” I am constantly trying to improve and work on my skills to make me get better when no one is watching. During the summer I was always at a Park trying to improve I started going to batting cages and even got a personal trainer which has impacted my game tremendously. What makes me different from others is the love but yet the aggressiveness I bring to the field. I learnt this while being a catcher. Being a catcher has taught me to play smart and strategic while also being aggressive and competitive. Although I love sports, My academic is really big for me. I currently hold a 3.7 GPA for my 8th 9th and 10th grade academics. As an 8th grader I took high school classes which made me be advanced now and i'm able to take AP classes, i'm also taking the steps to achieve my CTE in Computer Science. I would like to major in Economics and minor in Sports Management, in the future I would like to help others learn to trade stocks as well as helping student athletes on the field.I want to show others you can do it no matter when you start.
