My name is Josephine Sander, I am in the class of ‘24 for Mason High School in Ohio. I have been playing baseball and softball since I was 4 years old, and I started my first year of travel softball when I was 12.
I take great pride in the work that I put into every aspect of my life, and this includes the opportunity to attend University and play softball at the collegiate level. Competing in college softball would not only fulfill my athletic aspirations, but it would give me the opportunity to make lifelong friendships with teammates and coaches.
I have made some of my best friends through softball. Playing for my school and summer ball teams has taught me to lead with positivity, to hold myself to a high standard, and to be a good teammate, fostering the best results for the team.
I have been part of my club team since 2019, OFC Heat ‘05 Class A team coached by Jason Conley and I have been the starting center fielder for Mason Varsity Softball, coached by Liann Muff, since my freshman season.
Playing for Mason has afforded me exposure to a rigorous, competitive, and a community engaged softball program, with a year-round training regimen. I especially enjoy the opportunity to be involved with the community through volunteering with the Challenger League, which is Little League's adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. During our pre-season, “The Program” as it is called, includes various team challenges to push us to our limits and build mental and physical toughness.
Since playing with Mason these past three years, our team has won 2 Division titles, I have won 2nd Team All State, Defensive Player of the year, and GMC Conference Player of the Week.
While I love competing in softball, and being involved in the community, and working part-time at Dunkin Donuts, I always put my classwork first. Just like my athletics, I take my education seriously, earning a 4.2/4.0 GPA. I have been enrolled in Honors and AP classes every year of high school and have passed all my AP college credit exams. I have won many academic awards of merit, to include the Principles Award, Teachers Award, Honor Roll, and I am a member of the National Society for High School Scholars and National Business Honor Society.
I would love to foster my competitive and collaborative spirit both on the field and in the classroom by being a student athlete. I believe that being part of a college team is one of the greatest ways to prepare for “real world” experiences and challenges. There are many parallels in the professional world with that of sports, working with a team to better yourself and your teammates, persevering together, taking the lead at times, and following at times. As a college athlete, I can continue to gain deeper confidence, discipline, effective time management, and teamwork, which will not only lead to endless opportunities on the field but will prepare me well for the future.
