It was after watching my older brother represent Team Ontario for the 2016 18u Canadian National Baseball Championships I made the decision to take my softball career more serious and more specifically, my pitching. I had seen how hard he worked and more important I witnessed the rewards. There was one big obstacle in my way and that was the fact I was only offered the 3rd base spot on the Brampton Tier 1 team. I had to make the difficult decision to leave some of my very close friends/teammates but I knew that I would be the starter for the Brampton Tier 2 team and get the reps I needed to achieve my goals.
I credit working with Jason Dowse, one of the Toronto Blue Jays conditioning coaches as much as working with Jenna Caira, pitcher for Team Canada, for my current success. 2018 was a breakout year for me, I earned the #1 pitching spot on the Tier 1 team, won ‘Top Pitcher Award’ at the 2018 Ontario Summer Games and finally, I had the opportunity go to 16u Women's Softball Nationals in Winnipeg and pitched every inning of every game but one. At 16u I had achieved as much and more than my brother.
The thing I enjoy most is learning different things about the game. In camps, in practice, in games you meet different coaches and see how other players approach the game. Learning the game builds the confidence needed to take on a leadership role. My goal is not just to reach my potential as a ball player but also to help my teammates reach theirs. I love to lead by example and I love my teammates.
My parents have always been my number one fan and have told me I could do anything I set my mind to even when others didn’t. I am very thankful and blessed and they are responsible for who I am. I’m passionate, driven, open minded, able to learn quickly, coach-able, team oriented, and a leader with a big heart. My academic goal for high school is to maintain my 3.7 GPA and if possible get my GPA up to a 4.0. I am open to any level Junior College, College or University and my goal is to be successful in the program I choose and graduate with honors.
One more thing, my Dad always asked me what ballplayers do and I’d always answer, “play ball”. I’m looking for a school that will combine academics with playing time, I want the ball coach.
