Hi, my name is Alexa Oriecuia and I am currently in my junior year at Regiopolis Notre Dame catholic high school in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I was born March 3, 2003 in Thunder Bay, Ontario but I currently live in Kingston. I have been playing softball since I was four years old and I have played travel softball at a competitive level for the last eight years. I am both a right handed thrower and batter. My main position is pitcher and my secondary position is first base. I have always loved playing softball as it challenges me both physically and mentally. The experiences that I have encountered with this sport has shaped me to be very competitive, mentally tough, and motivated to always improve. As a pitcher, I can perform under any scenario at any time during the game, despite how stressful it may be. I don’t get rattled on the mound and I show no emotion. I go into the game with a goal and a certain mindset so that I have the capacity and confidence to strikeout batters and make it easy for the infielders to make plays. I have had the opportunity to play with some very talented girls and coaches who have pushed me to become a better athlete. I greatly appreciate feedback and constructive criticism from my coaches as I am always looking for different ways I can improve and become a better player and teammate. I am very committed to this sport; I currently play for the Toronto Lady Mets, which means practices and training is 320 miles round trip. I am grateful to have such supportive parents that drive me to ball practices, clinics, games, and tournaments after school and on weekends so that I can compete at the highest level. I also frequently travel to the states of New York and Virginia to work with pitching coaches to better improve my pitching mechanics, ball speed, spin axis and spin rates.
Although softball plays a major role in my life, academics does so as well. I am enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program and I take my studies very seriously. This program challenges me to be an exemplary student and has greatly improved my skills in time management, organization, and communication. I am also a member my school’s basketball, volleyball, track and field, and mathlete team. I have received many awards for my academic achievements as well as sports achievements within my school such as honour role, the Fowler award, track and field rookie of the year, and mathlete honours certificate. I am able to keep up with and excel in my academics, while also maintaining a strong commitment to softball. I dedicate at least 30 hours of my time per week to softball, on top of my school sports and academics, and my involvement in my community. I am very ambitious in all aspects of my life and I set very high goals for myself. In the future, I would like to pursue a career in the medical field to conduct research and create new treatments and pharmaceuticals to help those who are suffering from disease and illnesses.
When I am not playing on the field or doing homework, I am spending time with my family, at the gym, volunteering, or travelling. I have volunteered both locally and I plan to volunteer internationally as well. Locally, I have volunteered to help girls of my age and younger who play at a lower level of softball to improve their game. I have helped as a pitching instructor, game announcer, and have also helped as an observer of the team selection process. Internationally, I am going to Peru on a mission trip in the beginning of my junior year of high school. I will be volunteering for a week to help make bricks, build houses, harvest crops, and make clothes for the locals, as well as experiencing and learning about their culture and way of life. I am participating in this great opportunity so that I can help those who are less fortunate and better understand the struggles of people around the world.
In conclusion, I am an exceptionally hard worker that is determined and committed to improve both on and off of the field. Thank you for taking the time to review my profile and get a better understanding of the type of student athlete I am, and my potential as a player on your team. Contact me and let’s discuss how I can help you and your team reach it’s goals. Alexa
