Hello! My name is Maddie Tice, I am 16 years old and am currently a junior at Bellefonte Area High School (Class 2021). My goal is to play softball at the collegiate level.
Sports are as a much a part of life to me as breathing. I have been playing basketball and baseball since the time I could walk. When I was eight years old, I switched to softball and haven’t looked back since. As a member of the Centre Hailstorm Softball family since I was in the sixth grade, I work out year round to improve my strength, agility, and speed. There is never an off-season. The lessons I have learned from playing with my Hailstorm sisters go well beyond the field. I have learned how to work together as a team, no matter how challenging the situation. We have played in over 100-degree weather, in 30 degree weather, and even in the middle of an actual hailstorm. Together we have learned how to remain focused on our goal of winning. Personally, I have learned how to help encourage my teammates when they need it and how to keep pushing through, no matter what. Last year my travel softball team played 45 games, going 36-9. This was not a result of luck, but of hard work and dedication. As the catcher, my job is to see the whole field, recognizing who needs my direction and supporting my pitcher in any way possible. The leadership skills I have learned as a catcher have carried over into the classroom. Academics are extremely important to me. I am a student before an athlete and work to excel in the classroom. My straight “A” average is proof of my hard work and commitment to my school work.
My commitment extended beyond the classroom and field this past spring when I suffered a Jones fracture in my last varsity basketball game, requiring surgery and causing me to miss the majority of my varsity high school softball season. While I was unable to play, I remained an integral part of the team by calling pitches and providing leadership off the field. In those 15 weeks, I never missed a practice. Through hard work and physical therapy, I was cleared ahead of my target date. My foot is fully healed, stronger than ever, and I am looking forward to the upcoming summer/fall seasons.
Thank you for your time for viewing my profile. I welcome the opportunity to learn more about your program and how we might be the right fit for each other.
