For as long as I can remember, I have loved playing the game of softball. I like other sports, but softball has always been my favorite, and I never want to stop playing. I have played travel ball since I was 10, and last year I started varsity for my high school team as a sophomore, which was a great accomplishment. I was a varsity starter again this season, my junior year. As I look ahead, playing at the collegiate level is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I don’t want to miss out on.
I consider myself a well-rounded player. I’m a strong hitter with a solid batting average and can hit for power as well as slap and drag bunt. I’m a fast, heads up baserunner, and I love the anticipation and excitement of the offensive part of the game. Defensively, I primarily played first base when I was younger and eventually transitioned to the outfield when I was 12-13, and I absolutely love it there. I’m good at seeing the ball off the bat and using my speed to track down fly balls and line drives. I love the thrill of making a great catch or throwing someone out from the outfield! As a teammate, I try to lead by example and do the right thing. I treat others with respect and feel that teammates should be positive and supportive, but also hold each other accountable to always give our best effort and put the team first. The camaraderie developed with teammates is one my favorite aspects about playing a team sport.
In addition to softball, I also play field hockey for my school. I have played for a total of six years, three of which at the high school level, and my junior year I made varsity. I also participate in offseason conditioning for both field hockey and softball. There are some differences between the two programs, but both have components of conditioning, nutrition, strength, and agility. In addition to the obvious physical benefits, I feel there is a great mental benefit that comes from the structure and routine, being with friends, and knowing that I am building positive, healthy habits.
I have maintained a good GPA throughout my high school career while taking some Honors and/or AP classes each year and have received multiple merit scholar awards. In the fall of my junior year I was inducted into National Honor Society. I also participate in Best Buddies and volunteer for youth softball and field hockey programs.
I’m open to all different kinds of colleges and am excited to explore my options and pursue opportunities. Ultimately I want to select a college that feels like the right fit for me. I want to be in an environment I’m comfortable, and one that I can push myself to grow as a student, an athlete, and a person.
