Payton Whary '19 Recruiting Profile

I am a 5’2 starting varsity pitcher for Shamokin Area High School in Coal Township, PA.  I have been considered a utility player throughout my 10 years of playing softball.  I have played all positions except catcher and first base.   Once during a high school JV game I was placed on the opposing teams mound to pitch as their pitcher was hurt so we could continue the game.  As much as it was hard to pitch against my own team I gave 100%.

At the age of 7 I asked my first coach if I could try pitching and the words that motivated me throughout my career was “sorry honey you are just too small to be a pitcher. “   That statement has made me work hard and prove that size is not always what needs to be big as I may be smaller in size but my heart for the game is huge!  I play softball throughout the year as I am also on a travel softball team.   I have played in the Softball World Series held in Maryland 2 years in a row with travel ball teams.

Academics are also important to me.   I am a member of the National Honor Society and currently I am ranked 7^th in my junior class.   I am a dual enrollment student.  I am taking college classes at the local community college as well as AP classes at my high school.   I am still trying to figure out what I would like to major in as I have many interests.  I am known to read a book a day as that is also a passion of mine.   I am open to considering all academic opportunities that are presented to me.
