hello,
My name is Haley, I live with my Mom, Step Dad, and Older Sister. Since I can remember softball has always been in my life since I was a little girl going to my stepdads games to starting my first day of little league then to my first day of travel ball. For the past 5 years I have started at second base and have also rotated to outfield and wherever my coach has needed me.
Growing up in school was always a challenge, when i was in second grade it was determined I had a learning disability, for 7 years I was put in extra classes doing extra work outside of school to teach myself to read and write better. This was always my biggest insecurity as a kid. As I worked harder and harder to improve my skills when I reached high school I was in all academic classes keeping my grades in the high 80's and 90's. January of sophomore year I was severely sick with mononucleosis, I was out of school for 4 months and that took a huge toll on myself and my grades. It was a struggle trying to make up for months of missed school work plus the work that I currently had. Around the end of April my school did an amazing job trying to help me. They set up morning cyber classes until 9:30am. Then I would go to school for 3 classes, and to get caught up on all the work I missed I would stay after school for 2 hours, 3 times a week with my home- bound teacher. Though my sophomore year was not what I intended with the help of my school and family I was able to complete the year, Though my grades were passing I feel they were not a reflection of my capabilities had I not gotten sick. Now onto my Junior year I have had all high 80’s and 90’s, I was given an amazing opportunity to help our special educational students learn how to swim everyday. Sadly my junior year will be cut short due to COVID-19 but that will not stop me from achieving the grades I want.
My goal in college is to pursue my softball career, and further my education, my aspirations for beyond college are working with children who wear prosthetic, or disabled children.
Since I was young I was always taught to care for others and as well as other living things, for the past 5 years my family and I have worked together and we now are the proud owners of 8 dogs who have struggled from very hard and heartbreaking back stories. the way i relate this to being different from other recruits is i will never judge another player or teammate for their back story. As a teammate I find it important to care for others as a whole, to listen to their opinions on and off the field.
What I feel makes me a good recruit in character, athletics, and academics is I realized anything can happen to me and I will never give up.
