Aliya Billay '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Aliya Billay and I am a catcher graduating in 2023 from Carlton Comprehensive High School. I have been playing softball since I was old enough to sign up and it has played a major role in my life ever since. My goal is to play ball at a collegiate level and to excel in every aspect of the game. I am a good fit for your team because I bring a good work ethic and positive attitude to the diamond every day. I am a quick learner when it comes to new plays or drills, etc. I will bring determination, leadership and enthusiasm to the team. I am aggressive at the plate and on the field and can take criticism and constructive words from coaches to help improve in areas that need it, and I don’t let an error affect the rest of my game. Softball has allowed me to compete at a provincial and national level in Canada. In 2018, our team placed first in two provinces which allowed us to have the opportunity to travel to Montreal, Quebec to compete at a national level. Softball has allowed me to build relationships with coaches and many talented athletes. I was introduced to the game at a very young age and grew up in a family of baseball fans. My parents play a big role in this journey because they constantly encourage me to give 110% effort on and off the field. Although softball has brought me many great opportunities, I have also faced many challenges along the way. COVID-19 had a major effect on our last two seasons as tournaments and games were very limited. During the pandemic, I took the time to grow and improve off the field and in the classroom and improve my grades. I am currently sitting at a GPA around 3.75-3.9/4.0 and I am working to improve it every day. My goals in life are to become a family lawyer and play softball at a collegiate level along the way as it holds a very special place in my heart. Softball has always been my happy place. A place that I can go after a long or rough day and as soon as I tie my cleats, everything is all better and I will continue to work hard throughout my senior year to achieve my goal of playing softball at a collegiate level and bring nothing but positive aspects to your team.
