I was lucky enough to have my dad stay at home with me from shortly after I was born until I started pre-school. As a result, I have pictures of me hitting softballs with him from just shortly after I learned to walk.
He served in the United States Army and Tennessee Army National Guard for fourteen years prior to staying at home with me and he raised me to understand the value of being on a team and the importance of accomplishing more as a group than one could ever accomplish alone.
It wasn’t until I attended my brother’s baseball banquet his senior year of college that I that tied that sense of team accomplishment to softball. Each player on my brother’s team shared stories of their time together while at school, during practice and games and on the bus traveling. The emotion and love they shared solidified by desire to play at the collegiate level.
To that end, I have committed myself to being the best teammate possible through discipline and hard work not only on the field but in the classroom.
I am taking honors level and advanced placement classes in my pursuit of academic excellence while attending all team functions and additional workouts with private instructors for hitting and fielding. I have been the starting short stop for my high school team since my freshman year and my stats continue to improve with each season. I was selected to the all-district tournament team my freshman and sophomore years and led my Tennessee 4A team in most stats my sophomore year including batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, homeruns, doubles, singles and stolen bases.
I feel my commitment to self-improvement in the classroom and on the field, along with my closely held belief in being a part of something bigger, to accomplish more as a team than I could alone, would make me a great asset to a college softball program.
