My name is Kaylee and I'm looking for a school that will further foster me socially, physically, and academically while building character and emotional intelligence. Even as a young child, I have always been interested in competing. I played softball, basketball and soccer. Each sport I tried, I gave it my all and consistently showed improvement. After years of being dedicated to all of these sports, basketball became part of who I am. Over the years, many have suggested concentrating on another sport because my size but I chose to ignore the doubters. I have never had playing time handed to me; I have earned every minute I was on the court. If you want 100%, I’m going to give you 110%. I am not that player that looks at the score board; my mission is to focus on the game and my team from start to finish no matter the outcome. I have learned the importance of grit in all aspects of my life and especially in basketball. I would like to find a college or university that will allow me to play my favorite sport while also balancing me as a person and challenging me to build autonomy while maintaining the drive to become the best I can be in all areas of my life. As most basketball players would attest to the importance of relentless practice, grit, and drive, I would agree but add that balancing needs as a human being is also vital. I am always working to improve my game and this quote sums it up best for me: “It’s what you do in the dark, that makes you shine in the light.” I am a small town girl and honestly I feel like a smaller campus/school would be the best fit for me. It’s like the song says, “Sometime you wanna go where everybody knows your name.” I want a place where I can become the best basketball player that I can be, the most focused student working toward a degree that will help me become a woman of influence, and a place that will leave me changed. I want the moto of my college experience to be as Fred Devito said, “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you,” and I mean change for the betterment of who I am to become.
