Hi Coach,
My name is Finley Butler. I am in the high school grad class of 2023 and I am committed to pursuing my love of basketball at the post-secondary level. For my whole life I have loved competing and pushing myself to be the best I can be and basketball and school are my favorite places to do this.
I have grown up in a basketball family, having lived my first couple of years in Europe where my dad was playing professional basketball. Even though I have been playing basketball for most of my life, I feel like I am relatively early in my development. I am continuing to improve while I grow taller and stronger and work hard on my skills.
Even though I am 6’0 and still growing, I am playing mostly playing at the 2/3 position. Outside shooting is one of my biggest strengths and something I continue to work on daily. My family has the keys to a gym and a Dr. Dish shooting machine, so I get up shots every day. I am also working hard on my ball-handling and decision making, which should allow me to play some point guard position as well.
I was on the British Columbia Provincial team that competed at Nationals last summer as a U15, and I play club basketball year-round. This year I was part of an elite training program from 6 - 8 am twice a week throughout the school year where we worked on strength and conditioning, mental performance training and lots of individual skills. All of this extra work helped me excel as a 10th grade starter on my school's varsity basketball team which finished 3rd in the province.
As the daughter of a full-time coach, I am well aware of the aspects of my game I need to improve to play at the top NCAA Division 1 level. I am working hard to get the strength, speed, agility and consistency necessary to be a valuable contributor at this level. I am confident that I have the work ethic, desire, and coaching I need to get there, and am interested in talking to coaches who would like to see if I am the right fit for their program.
I was fortunate enough to earn an athletics/academics scholarship to one of the top academic schools in Canada (York House). As a student there I have a heavy workload and high academic standards. Balancing this as well as my busy sports schedule can be challenging, but I know has prepared me well for my life as a post-secondary student-athlete.
I love the game of basketball and the opportunity it gives me to be my best and compete.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I wish you the best of luck with your basketball program
