Being selected to be on varsity my sophomore year is when my basketball career truly took its best turning point. The passion became more of a reality for me and the seriousness I had for the game really kicked in. I have always had a love and respect for this game but earning a spot on my high school’s varsity team made me want to work that even harder to become to be the best player that I could to help my team. During my first year on varsity my team went to the playoffs and almost made it to our divisions championship game. After that shortcoming, during the off-season work went into full motion. I started morning skills training routines in the gym and started working with a strength and endurance trainer to improve my speed and explosiveness. This year as a senior I will be the starting point guard and team caption and it is my personal goal to lead my team to a division championship and on to the run for state!
During the off-season I continue to play in the AAU league which helps expose me to higher levels of competition to show me what level I need to be playing at. This summer if attended several college camps to further develop my skills and learn from some of the top coaches. I was proud to have won Best defensive player and 3-on-3 at Long Beach Elite Camp. From playing AAU I also got to see what kind of teamwork, effort, leadership, and focus it takes to get to the next level and it fueled my passion to push myself harder and to help be a strong leader on my team. As a student athlete am looking for a program that offers both athletic and academic components so that I can continue to grow a young adult. The most important thing for me in this process is the academic experience because I value that just as much as the athletic experience that I hope I will be able to have. I feel I have the drive, work ethic and team skills to be able to compete at the next level. Being a hardworking student and teammate I know that I will be a good fit for your team!
