Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I'm a baller for life. I've been playing basketball ever since I can remember--my dad took me to the back yard and drilled me on dribbling, passing, and shooting. I've always been told that my passing ability, dribbling, and shooting form are fundamentally sound. I know the game well. Despite my "height" (a whopping 5 feet 2 inch), I've been able to compete at all levels (e.g., AAU National Champions Back to Back in 5th and 6th grade, and holding my own against State-Ranked Canyon Springs High School). I love basketball--it gives me peace in a sometimes crazy world. I'll admit, I don't get to practice as much as I should or would like too--I put in a lot of time and effort to keep my grades up. But I have hit as many as 4 three point field goals in one game--four in a row! My teams have never won league or CIF Championships, but we do play in a very competitive league. Many girls from the immediate area go on to play Division I college ball. The local team to beat, Canyon Springs High School, is a state power. I can handle my own, I believe. I've been a starter since my sophmore year. I also played varsity as a freshman. I'm told that I'm a very social and likable person. I like to work hard on and off the court. School always came easy, until I moved from my previous city and high school to my current one durinig my 9th grade year. The move was hard on me, and my grades suffered at the time. The expectations from teachers were much higher at my new school, and it took me some time to get my feet settled again. Even though I don't have the highest GPA, I work hard in rigorous courses, and I mostly get Cs or better. I've become more confident and responsible over the years, and I believe I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to do. My mind is determined to play college basketball and get a college education like my mom and dad and everyone else in my family. I'm pretty open to where ever I go to college. I want to keep my optioins open. I don't really care where I go to school, just so long as I get the opportunity to play and get a good education. I love my AP Psychology class, and I have interests in a career in this area, or something sports-related. Both my parents are educators, and this is an another field I'm considering. The truth is--I'm undecided on a "specific" major at this time. Thank you for looking over my profile and giving me your consideration. I will bust my butt to make you proud! Alyssa
