Throughout the years that I’ve played basketball I have gotten to learn and experience many things that relate not only to sports, but also to academics and life. I have always loved basketball because of the constant challenges it brings and the connectedness of the team and community. This was probably felt the most my Junior year when my team went to state for the first time in our school history. There were hundreds of people there to support the team which reminded me of how important it is to be there for the people you care about. Through this experience I also learned the importance of controlling my nerves by having confidence in myself. I came to understand the impact of togetherness and learned how to harness my confidence. I believe that I could be a great player and teammate .
The years that I’ve spent playing basketball have also shaped me into a motivated, encouraging, and passionate player who is constantly looking to improve. Those characteristics do not waver off the court, which has helped me to stay focused on academics as well. My motivation to excel in school and my love of learning is what draws me to high level academic schools with many opportunities for involvement. In my experience I have found that it becomes easier to be involved when everyone is connected which is why I would prefer a small school with under 4,000 people. Ideally, the connection would extend beyond academics and to the team. I would like a team that sticks together through the good and the bad and helps everyone to grow as individuals and as a team.
