I started playing the sport of basketball in 2nd grade which was the beginning of my passion for the game. From the first time I set foot in the gym, I aspired to become something great. Each year I progressively developed my skills and improved as a player while still having fun throughout the process. Eventually, I decided to focus on how far I could take my love for the game and set my hopes of playing at the collegiate level. To be able to play in college is something that I would truly be grateful for as it would immensely change my life.
When evaluating myself as a player, I believe that I have strong ball-handling skills, a high basketball IQ, and tough defense against my opponents. Within the past four years, I have been called upon to play point guard for my teams. By playing this position, I have become more vocal on the court as well as a leader among my teammates. I truly try to listen to the advice my coaches give me and put it into play. In practice, I really strive to improve my skills, as well as building upon what I already know. Along with improving my skills, I push myself hard throughout practice. Taking what I do in practice, I perform the same drills at home. If fortunate enough to get recruited, I will work extremely hard for the program as well as my teammates and coaches.
In the past year, I was given an amazing opportunity to play on an elite AAU Team. This AAU team is called Team Tre (which is part of the Select 40 AAU circuit) and has had the privilege of sending many girls to colleges. By becoming a part of this program, it has pushed me to train harder and become a better player. In previous years, I had participated in the Swish Program which allowed me to become a key part of the team and develop my leadership skills. Along with my travel experiences, I started as point guard for North Forsyth Middle School Basketball Team in both 7th & 8th grade and earned the Defensive MVP award both seasons. In my middle school years, I also joined the North Forsyth Middle School Track Team which I participated in for 2 years. This along with my 7 years of soccer experience, has provided me with greater athleticism and speed on the court.
While I strive to do my best in sports, grades are an important factor in my life. With both of my parents being educators, I always pushed myself to study hard in school and maintain good grades. In middle school, I was awarded an all-A’s certificate and had all honors classes. This recent school year, I was placed in all but 2 academic honors classes which consisted of Spanish and Biology. Getting good grades is something I push myself to make as it has always been crucial for my family.
I would love to attend a college that would enable me to push myself inside and outside of the classroom. I am open and grateful to any colleges who take interest in me but ultimately, I would love to find a school that suits my preferences. By playing in college I would be able to fulfill a dream my family has had for me, as well as a dream I have anticipated myself. With me being the eldest child, attending college and playing basketball would demonstrate a positive role model for my three younger sisters. I truly would love to make my family proud of my accomplishments as well as my peers and community. Getting to play in college is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I would greatly appreciate and treasure.
