I started playing basketball at 6 years old in my front yard. I would always play at recess and suprise the boys with how I could shoot, but as I grew older none of my friends enjoyed basketball so I stopped playing. I joined the team in 8th grade and didnt get that much playing time because of my back. Last year our former coach wouldnt let me play because I was fresh out of surgery, but I’d watch and learn from the older girls. This year, I got a tremendous amount of playing time, and had suprised my coaches and teamates with how I played. I recieved the Iron Man award from our team, for pushing through pain and giving it my all.
I have strong hand eye cordination which not only helps on offense, but on defense as I can easily block shots. I am learning more post moves as I grow older, and join them together to easily score around the rim. I have very strategic passing, and good communication with my teamates. In the classroom I am a creative worker, and a very social peer. I am in our Rotary-Interact club at our school, and I am also involved in the Knowledge bowl team. As a positive person on the court or in the classroom, I make many friends wherever I go.
As a former multi-sport athlete, basketball stuck out to me. Basketball as a whole teaches me so many lessons that I use daily. Learning to be apart of a team, to not wanting just myself to succeed but everyone else on the court. I had severe scoliosis, and in May of 2022 I had scoliosis reconstructive surgery. That surgery set me back a lot, but I didn't give up. I have learned determination, to push through pain and play until the time clock strikes 0:00. I’ve put in countless of hours in the gym, on the court, and at physical therapy to make myself the best basketball player I can be. Each year I grow tremendously as an athlete, and also as a person.
I want to attend a college where I cannot only improve my basketball skills, but also improve my learning. I am very open-minded to all options and can’t wait to see what the future holds for me. As a very family and community oriented person, I hope I make them proud.
