A person in my life who has helped me become a better athlete on and off of the court is my younger sister who has Down Syndrome. My sister has showed me why it is necessary to appreciate the little things in life and has taught me the importance of uplifting and encouraging others. She has also made me a more empathetic person. Finally, with my younger sister's schedule taking up quite a bit of family time for doctor and therapy visits, I quickly learned how to put my family's needs before my own. This trait has definitely carried over to the court because I am always working to find ways on how I can contribute to make my teammates more successful.
While I always seek to help out my teammates, I have continued to work hard in the off-season. In the past, I have worked with a basketball trainer who developed the skills of WNBA players such as Tamika Catchings. I also work with a personal trainer to improve upon my explosiveness and agility.
In summary, I am convinced that the above mentioned items has allowed me to be a successful two-sport athlete in volleyball and basketball. I look forward to becoming a valuable collegiate basketball player.
