Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Waimarie Te Runa. I am a very proud Maori from New Zealand. My life dream is to play basketball in America, I am at the end of my first year in high school, I attend Mount Albert Grammar in Auckland New Zealand. I am currently in off season training and I am looking forward to being a key player in my junior and senior basketball team next year.

I am excited about taking my talents to the next level. Attending a College in America is definitely a goal for me—not only to play basketball but also to excel in my academic studies. I have not picked my field of study yet, however I do enjoy photography and anything to do with sport

I have one younger sibling, who is going down the netball and athletics path. As I am the older sister I do have the responsibility of being a role model and being a good leader, I am a people person and tend to get along with anyone, I am a very focused person, I like to have fun and enjoy my life but once I hit the court IT'S ON!!!!. I like to think that I’m a very good teammate and I will do what I need to do to get our team to win! I will be a great asset to any team I am on

On the court I do what I need to, I have had to play defense, which has resulted in quite a lot of turnovers, 8 second violations ( in New Zealand it is 8 seconds), and rebounds. However I love to drive to the hoop, fake pass, put that 3 point shot up, and my specialty the no look pass, I am quick, fast and not afraid to take the foul.
