Personal Statement
Unlike most basketball players when asked what their strength is in basketball, I don't answer that I am a good shooter or can take the ball up hard, but rather answer that I improve, that I push myself hard to make sure I get better over time. When I begun to take basketball seriously I tried out for my school's JV team and made the team but was not chosen as a starter or to be on the travel team. In a matter of 2 years I graduated from the JV to the Varsity team, was selected as a starter and as such am on the travel team. Given this progress, I now feel confident in telling you my strengths on the court.
My quick improvements come from my personal motivations. But what motivates me to play basketball and want to continue it in college? Besides the love of being on the court, I highly value the team environment and understand the important difference between being part of a team effort rather than individual effort. In conclusion, I want to play basketball in college because when I play I feel more focused on my academics, which increased my success overall. Being a student athlete motivates me in all areas of my life, and allow me to lead a more balanced lifestyle.
