Personal Statement

My name is Jessica, I am 17 yrs old and I'm in grade 12.

I love basketball and can play it for hours if I could. My love for basketball grows more and more every day as I get to learn more about it. I remember when I first started playing basketball, I would spend hours trying to recreate drills and would not leave the court until I got them right. Even though it was frustrating at times when I couldn't get it, I still managed to improve myself.

After some time, I realized that I was really into it, and wanted to take it to the next level and play in my school basketball team. Unfortunately for me, covid came around and shut everything down. But that was not enough to stop me from playing basketball. My parents agreed to install a basketball hoop so that my brothers and I could practice whenever we wanted. And that's when serious training started.

I started watching basketball videos on YouTube made by several coaches including coach Phil Handy (LA Lakers assistant coach). It really helped me improve my basketball skills. During quarantine, I also managed to get a little bit more into shape by working out every day.

And I would like to pursue my love basketball in college.

This journey has taught me that no matter what goals you set your mind to, you can achieve them with hard work and perseverance.

Yes. Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses will be considered the school's “honors courses.” I am doing IB

Yes. I am currently in my 2nd/final year of IBDP and doing 6 subjects which, are 4 are high levels(biology, french, chemistry, English) and 2 standard levels (math and business management) as well as 2 core subjects(CAS and TOK).
