Personal Statement
Who is Teanna Gibson? If I’m being honest Coaches, I’m just an ordinary girl with extraordinary dreams. I am passionate about pursuing my collegiate goals in my academics and athletics. Yes, I know that you’ve heard that from almost every young athlete, but my dedication, commitment and reliance for women’s basketball distinguish me as an exemplary candidate for your team.
Academically, I am maintaining a 3.0 grade point average while balancing the pressure of my athletic commitments. I believe that you’re a student first then an athlete. I am a very diligent student and if I’m confused about something I will either ask for help or try my endeavor best to figure it out. I try to grasp a new topic as quickly as I can, and I have excellent time management skills. All of which I believe are crucial for success both on and off the court.
Athletically, I have devoted most of my time to this sport called basketball. I am 110 percent committed. For example, my daily schedule as senior in high school would be strength training at 5am to 6:30, school at 8:30 until 3:00 and practice at 5:00 until 7:30 and afterwards I have completed my homework and go over any piece of information I learnt that day. And then the cycle repeats again at 5:00. I constantly try to strive for excellence. There were times I wanted to quit and give up, but then I remember that God hasn’t brought me this far to give up now. I also believe that mindset is key. If an athlete mindset is wrong before they play, then I believe they should not play at all. How can you be on a team where everybody mindset is positive while you’re having negative thoughts? That simply cannot work. However, I am nothing like that.
Character is a fundamental aspect of who I am. I am known for my unwavering work ethic, discipline, resilience and ability to connect with people I have just met. I understand the importance of teamwork and the value of supporting my teammates. My positive attitude and ability to lead by example makes me an asset to any team environment.
However, what truly sets me apart is my unwavering determination to continuously improve, not just as an athlete but as a person. I am not afraid of challenges; instead, I embrace them as opportunities for growth. I am confident that my dedication to self-improvement, my strong character, and my ability to excel academically will be an asset to the University team.
Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to the possibility of joining your team and representing the University with pride and determination.
