Personal Statement
Hi! My name is Kiehla Hänggli. I live in Switzerland and have dual citizenship (Swiss/American). I speak Swiss-German, high German, English and have had French since the third grade.
I have played basketball since I was around 10 years old. I play for the club, BC Alte Kanti Aarau. Currently I play (positions 1-3) on two different teams; NL1 (3rd highest level in Switzerland) and the first division Swiss women‘s basketball league (top league). I train 4-6 times a week year round, with a short summer break.
During the summer of 2022, I achieved a major goal of mine. I was able to play at the FIBA European Championship for the U16 Swiss National team in Montenegro. It was a very important learning experience for me, as it was a very demanding and intense experience. Although it took some time for me to adapt to the situation, I did learn how to play under extreme pressure and it is something that I hope to be apart of again.
Academically, I am enrolled in an English immersion program, which means that my core courses are in English. I also have an emphasis on biology and chemistry. Last fall, I completed a 3 week intense english language course in England.
Between trainings and school, I do not have a lot of free time. However, i do enjoy reading, skiing/snowboarding, hiking and traveling. Our holidays are often spent with friends and family in Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Carolina.
