Personal Statement

Bula! My name is Moana Liebregts and I am a 5'11 Center from the Fiji Islands. Basketball has played a huge part in my life and it is a sport that I love whole heartedly. A few of my future goals include moving to the United States to play alongside girls who share the love for this sport as much as I do. The US has moulded many amazing athletes, helping them with their sports and academics and this can help me improve as a team player and individual. 

I hate losing a game and I play every game like its my last. I am a huge hustler on the court, whether my team is winning or losing.  I believe this is one of my best attributes as a player. In addition, I am also a good mid range shooter and a great rebounder. I am also a great team player and enjoy encouraging my teammates on and off the court. Leadership has naturally grown onto me and is also one of my characteristics. Education is also a priority to me. I am a straight A student and am capable of handling my sports and academics together.

  • Notes: This is my open grade club that I play along side retired Fiji Women's basketball reps. I have played with them since 2019 and have won several championships with them including the Zodiacs Challenge series I
  • 2019 Fiji National Women's Team (National Level)
  • Notes: The national women's team competed at the XVI south pacific games held in Apia, Samoa. I was one of the youngest in the team, having teammates who are playing college basketball in the United States. I am also teammates with Valerie Nainima, the assistant coach for the University of Michigan women's basketball team.
  • 2018 Team Fiji (U15) (National Level)
  • Notes: The national U15 team which represented Fiji to the Oceania U15 FIBA tournament in Papua New Guinea. Australia and New Zealand teams were also in attendance which gave us great experience. I was the captain of this team and we placed 4th overall. we qualified to the U16 Asia cup which was scheduled for 2019.

  • The pacific games is a continental multi-sport eventing competing Olympic sports, with participation exclusively from countries around the pacific. It is held every four years and I attended the recent one which was held in Apia, Samoa where my team and I won silver in the National Women's Basketball Tournament.

  • Held in Albury, Australia. My team (Zodiacs Fiji) traveled to Australia to compete against the Australian states to gain experience. I was the assistant captain and was one of the youngest in my team.

  • The U15 Oceania Basketball Tournament which was held in Papua New Guinea featured countries from across the pacific including Australia and New Zealand. I captained my team and qualified to the Asia U16 World cup which was scheduled for 2019. Overall, my team placed fourth.
